How to use voriconazole tablet

Take this medication at the dose and for the duration prescribed by your doctor. Take it all at once. It should not be chewed, crushed, or broken. Voriconazole tablets should be taken on an empty stomach.

Voriconazole dose

Adult: PO- The recommended dose for patients with greater than 40kg body weight is 400 mg 12 hourly for the 1st 24 hours. Maintenance: 200 mg 12 hourly, up to 300 mg 12 hourly if needed.

The recommended dose for patients with less than 40 kg body weight is 200 mg 12 hourly for the 1st 24 hours. Maintenance: 100 mg 12 hourly, up to 150 mg 12 hourly if needed. IV- Loading dose: 6 mg/kg 12 hourly for the 1st 24 hours. Maintenance: 4mg/kg 12 hourly.

Voriconazole side effects

If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, do not take it unless your doctor tells you to. Before taking it, consult your doctor if you have ever had heart failure, a weakened immune system (including HIV/AIDS), kidney problems, or liver problems such as yellow skin (jaundice).

This medication may not be appropriate for you. If your treatment lasts more than a month, your doctor may want to test your blood for liver function. Because this medication may cause dizziness or blurred vision, do not drive or operate machinery until it is safe to do so.
