How paxlovid does works
Paxlovid is made up of two medications: nirmatrelvir and ritonavir.
Nirmatrelvir is a SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro) inhibitor (also known as a SARS-CoV2 3CL protease inhibitor) that prevents severe COVID-19 by inhibiting viral replication in the early stages of the disease.
Ritonavir is used in conjunction with Nirmatrelvir to slow its metabolism, allowing it to remain active in the body for longer periods of time and at higher concentrations to combat the virus.
